Treviso and the Marca

The "Marca", name given to the Treviso’ surroundings, is rich of art, natural beauties, but also agricultural products such as the “Radicchio”, exalted by the cuisine of Treviso and the wine production appreciated all over the world, in particular the "Prosecco", produced in Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, and its refined version: the "Cartizze". Treviso and its Province is the ideal territory for whom want to enjoy a trip rich in flavours in an elegant historical-architectural contest.

The city, enclosed within XVI century walls, does not attract visitors for one particular monument but rather for its whole: its coloured buildings, its elegant palaces and the slow, quiet flowing of the river Sile.

The monuments

Treviso offers the visitor many opportunities to get to know its history, culture and art. You only need to take a slow walk under the arcades, along the roads and in the squares. "Piazza dei Signori" is the city's elegant lounge from where you can admire the "Palazzo dei Trecento" and the "Palazzo del Podestà" with the Civic Tower. It is an ideal starting point for a visit that will take you to see "Monte di Pietà" with the beautiful frescoes by Fiumicelli, the church of St. Francesco and the church of St. Nicolò, the Cathedral and the Baptistery, the "Loggia dei Cavalieri" and many other interesting sites such as the characteristic "Peschiera" on an island of the Sile.

The province

In the strip of land at the foot of the hills to the north of the city, there are the beautiful medieval village of Asolo, residence of the refined court of Queen Caterina Cornaro and Valdobbiadene, known for its Prosecco.
In the north there is the Cansiglio Wood, which have been for century the wood reserve of the Serenissima Republic shipyards. Eastwards between Piave and Livenza you can reach Oderzo, the centre of an area rich in archaeological finds from the Roman and Pre-roman times. In the west there is Castelfranco, a beautiful walled town near the source of the river Sile whose course is now a Regional Park. Then there is Terraglio, the old tree-lined road framed by wonderful Venetian villas that joins Treviso to Venice.
