Abano Terme, the oldest and most
important spa in Europe, is delightfully
sighted at the foot of the Euganean
Hills and right in the centre of the
Veneto Region. |
 |
The
district spreads over an area of
21,57 square kilometres, mostly plain,
about 14 metres above sea level, with
the exception of a few hills such as
Monte San Daniele topped by the
monastery of Benedictine nuns which can
be easily reached on foot from the |

thermal bath area, and
"Monte Ortone" where on the sloping hill stands the town
of Monteortone, built around the "Santuario della
Madonna".
Abano's climate is mild for most of the year with
an annual average temperature of 14°C. It is usually
sunny and it rains more often during Autumn and Spring.
About 18,000 people live in the city nowadays.

The expansion of
the pedestrian promenade is brand new, an area
completely paved with stones, extending now from
Piazza Fontana (Fountain Square) up to the
Montirone Garden. Many are the local people,
those coming from the region and the tourists
who enjoy a relaxing walk among historical
buildings such as the Hotels Orologio, Trieste and Victoria and others of more
recent style, through exclusive shops, cafes and
ice cream shops, surrounded by public and
private green, flower beds, squares, fountains,
parks and wide boulevards.
The new Urban Thermal Park connects lengthwise
two city parts thanks to a pedestrian walk
alternating green areas and an attractive
selection of shops.

Many fountains enrich the
squares and the pedestrian area, almost as to symbolize
the real richness of Abano Terme, the thermal water.
Cristoforo Colombo Square, overtopped by the monumental
fountain dedicated to the navigator from Genoa, is well
worth a visit.
The Montirone Hill is an ideal destination for a walk in
the green. The monumental entry, designed by Jappelli,
emphasizes the Montirone’s importance: the oldest hot
spring in Abano streams from this hill. Stone bath tubes
are dislocated among the glide paths in this public
garden; once smoking with thermal water, they are now
symbols of the thousand year old thermal tradition of
Abano.
