To communicate. To make
yourself clear .To understand the other person.
Words, voice intonation, gestures, silences....It
is impossible not to communicate.
Starting from this premise, it is easy to
understand why the other person may totally
misunderstand you. Your words follow one
direction while your voice’s intonation and the
expression of your face follow another one, and
there, here we have it, a misinterpretation.
A
misunderstanding is created by the lack
of a sheltered space; let’s imagine it
as a room that hosts two people, with
porous walls to the outside world, but
that it shouldn’t allow everything to
come inside the room. In reality, events
concerning the couple, their job,
friendships and family pile up and mix
with one another. The result is that,
steadily, these occurrences establish
themselves in this room which becomes
too crowded to favor communication.
Define your
boundaries. Reclaim your space back, a
space where both can communicate with
honesty and clarity, be it what you want
to share, or what you need. Too many
times a couple’s space is filled with a
lot of words, forgetting how much can
silence or a caress say.
Try to communicate through your touch.
Take some time off and choose a peaceful
place with low lighting and perhaps some
nice music. Find a comfortable position
for both of you.
Choose a part of your
partner’s body and press it gently with your hands. Feel
the body under your hands and let the other person feel
you. Gently start to move, sliding towards another point.
Slow and deep movements don’t tickle. Take your time and
maintain a certain amount of pressure on the body, one
that is pleasant for both of you. Touch the whole body.
Be curious. When you reach the face, touch it in a more
gentle way using your finger tips. When you have
finished, lay beside your partner, giving him/her the
time to get up and reciprocate.
When you have finished avoid speaking, instead hold and
look at each other. Remain in what you have created and
keep on communicating: silence will tell you many things.
